Put a Browser Inside Your VMS

The newest release of DW Spectrum® IPVMS, version 3.0, has been rebuilt from the ground up.

With all new source code, it is even more powerful and easier to use than ever before.

One of the exciting new features in DW Spectrum® IPVMS is “Web Pages” that allows you to place Internet browser windows in your surveillance layout. Like the Interactive Mapping feature that allows you to place an image or blueprint of your area or facility in the background of the GUI and then freely position camera feeds and alarms over it, Web Pages adds unexpected flexibility to your surveillance workflow.

The Web Pages feature is not meant to replace your favorite browser on your computer — Web Pages is a tool within the VMS.

The Web Pages browser is a basic version of Chromium — and as such, does not support many advanced browser features. It should run HTML5 very well, but you may experience crashes or bugs in websites which run additional scripts for interactivity and that require plugins.

There are many uses for this tool. Most popular are controlling third-party systems and devices which have web-based interfaces (i.e. access control, drones, radios).

The other major benefit of the Web Pages browser is the ability to create custom integrations with responsive HTML5 user interfaces. For example, we had one customer create a very simple user interface for border agents to document license plates, cargo and notes while never having to leave DW Spectrum®. They were able to create a responsive HTML5 web app that pulled the snapshot of the license plate and combined it with a form to fill out each time a truck pulled up — all sitting next to live video within the interface.

Other things customers can do with a the Web Pages browser include quickly accessing a corporate wiki, monitoring live news as it is developing and adding active mapping to their desktop (e.g. logistics truck tracking).

As a side note, because DW Spectrum® IPVMS version 3.0 is on a new platform, you will need to use a new iOS app. Alternatively, you can continue to access all your DW Spectrum® IPVMS and VMAX® systems through the dynamic DW® Mobile Pro™ app.

As always, you can try DW Spectrum® IPVMS at no cost. You only pay for recording per camera, and that is a one-time fee that entitles you to lifetime upgrades.

DW Spectrum® IPVMS version 3.0 is now available for download.
